Gerry Moriarty was appointed Chairman of the Macquarie Communications Infrastructure Group (MCIG) in December 2002. He joined Macquarie Group in August 2002 firstly as Deputy Chairman of MCIG and Senior Adviser Communications Infrastructure.

He is also Chairman of Broadcast Australia, Deputy Chairman of Arqiva (a UK communications company), a Director of Global Tower Partnership LLC (a US mobile tower company) and Chairman of the Bionic Ear Institute (a not for profit Australian Research Institute).

Previous positions include Group Managing Director, Telstra Infrastructure Services and Wholesale; Group Managing Director, Telstra Network and Technology; CEO Telstra Multimedia Pty Ltd; Managing Director, Telstra Network Products; Managing Director, Broadcast Communications Limited and Corporate Director, Television New Zealand Group.

Mr Moriarty holds a first class honours degree in Electrical Engineering from Canterbury University (New Zealand), 1972. He is a Fellow of The Institution of Engineers, Australia, a Fellow of The Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. In 1998, he was recognised as Professional Engineer of the Year by the Victorian branch of the Institution of Engineers, Australia. He is a past Governor of the Warren Centre for Advanced Engineering (University of Sydney) and member of the Melbourne Symphony Council.

In June 2001, Mr Moriarty was appointed as a Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia for service to the information technology and telecommunications sectors and as an advocate for the employment of leading edge technological capability to advance Australia’s competitiveness in business and commerce.

In 2003 he received the Centenary Medal for services to Australian Society in industry.
