Professor Rhonda Griffiths is a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife. Her academic qualifications are Bachelor of Education (Nursing), Master of Science (Honours) and Doctor of Public Health.
For the past six years, she has held her current joint appointment as Professor of Nursing at the University of Western Sydney and Director of the South West Sydney Centre for Applied Nursing Research (CANR), based at the Liverpool Hospital. The NSW Centre for Evidence Based Health Care (NSWCEBHC), of which she is the inaugural Director, is the NSW Collaborating Centre for the Joanna Briggs Institute. This Centre is actively contributing to the generation and dissemination of evidence and has published systematic reviews and guidelines on the Cochrane Library and the Joanna Briggs Collaboration.
Prior to these appointments she was Head of the Department of Nursing at the University of Wollongong. Professor Griffiths is an active current researcher and has published over 90 research reports and papers in professional journal and reference books since commencing her research career.
Professor Griffiths’ research interest is the management of people with diabetes and she has been extensively involved in the development of diabetes education in Australia. She was a member of the Board of the Australian Diabetes Educator’s Association (ADEA) serving as National President. She was awarded an Honorary Life Membership of ADEA. She was a Director of Diabetes Australia from 1990-1998, serving as National Vice President. Professor Griffiths was Vice President of Diabetes Australia NSW from 2000-2005 and continues as a Director. She was presented with the Sir Kempton Maddox Award for outstanding service to diabetes.
She has served and advised on numerous State and Federal Government clinical and research committees including NHMRC Expert Committee on Diabetes and Diabetes Models of Care Working Party, Australian Casemix Clinical Committee: Ambulatory Project Steering Group and the Australian Casemix Endocrinology Group as well as Curriculum Review and Research Committees for the Nurses and Midwives Board of NSW.
