Community Events

"Thank You" Day 2010 - Thursday, 25 November
Now in its 8th year, Research Australia’s award-winning “Thank You” Day public awareness campaign aims to raise community awareness of the benefits of health and medical research, through a national program conducted by Research Australia and its members.
"Thank You” Day is a time to recognise and thank the people who work tirelessly every day to protect us and improve and save our lives. A “Thank You” Day event is easy to organise, fun and completely flexible to suit your environment. It is a great way to bring together everyone who contributes to furthering health and medical research in Australia to say thank you. Visit www.thankyouday.org to find out how you can become involved, read about last year's campaign and the "Thank You" Day Award recipients.

Everyone benefits from health and medical research. Immunisations against childhood diseases or cervical cancer, antibiotic treatments for bacterial infection, sunscreens and lifestyle prescriptions all began with research.
Finding treatments, cures and prevents for disease takes more than the work of individual researchers; more than the collaborative effort of our universities; more than government funding. It takes a commitment from this generation to invest in the future of the next.
The future of Australia's health relies on young people.
Research Australia is looking for the 2010 National Youth Ambassador for Health Research - someone who cares about the future health of Australia to help spread the message of the importance of science and research to other young people, business and government leaders. The Research Australia National Youth Ambassador program is an essay based competition for Year 9 and 10 students with opportunities to interact with researchers and government and lead a team of like-minded young people to set priorities for research.
