Early Bird tickets are now available for the "Thank You" Day Awards Dinner - Thursday, 27 November 2008 - Sydney, 7.00pm for 7.30pm 

Now in it’s 6th year Research Australia’s “Thank You” Day Awards is a key event in the Health and Medical Research Community Calendar and celebrates  the achievements of individuals and organisations that have helped further research in Australia through corporate giving, philanthropy, advocacy or their own research contributions.   Awards are:

Griffith University Discovery Award  

National Health and Medical Research Council Advocacy Award 

 Bupa Australia* Leadership and Innovation Award

Leadership in Corporate Giving Award

Macquarie Group Foundation Great Australian Philanthropy Award

Lifetime Achievement Award

*BUPA Australia ("Caring for our customers under the brands HBA, Mutual Community, MBF and ClearView")


This year the black tie “Thank You” Day Awards Dinner will be held at the award winning Doltone House which is located minutes away from Darling Harbour, Sydney.  Pre-dinner sunset cocktails will be held on the outside deck which has spectacular views of the Harbour Bridge, city skyline, and Darling Harbour precinct.

The 2007 "Thank You" Day Recipients were:
  • Celebrity Advocacy Award: Ms Lisa Wilkinson nominated by the National Breast Cancer Foundation for helping to raise awareness for the much needed funds to support vital research into breast cancer.

  • National Health and Medical Research Council Health Research in Media Award: Ms Carol Nader was nominated by the ORYGEN Research Centre for her balanced journalism covering a wide range of health issues.
  • Leadership in Corporate Giving Award: Wesfarmers was nominated by the Western Australian Institute for Medical Research (WAIMR) for their long term commitment, vision and culture of corporate philanthropy to medical research. Over a period of five years, Western-Australian based Wesfarmers has injected $5 million into the research activities being conducted by WAIMR.

  • Victorian Government Leadership and Innovation Award: Professor John Coghlan AO was nominated by the Menzies Research Institute for his contribution to health and medical research during his illustrious career in leadership roles with the Menzies Foundation, his forty year association with the Howard Florey Institute and his twenty-five year involvement with the National Health and Medical Research Council.

  • Macquarie Group Foundation Great Australian Philanthropy Award: Mr Frank P Lowy AC was nominated by the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute (VCCRI) and the Save Sight Foundation for his continual work in raising awareness of the importance of health and medical research and his direct contributions through Westfield to various philanthropic causes including VCCRI and the Save Sight Institute.

  • MBF Australia Life Achievement Award: Mr Ken Roberts, AM FRACP was nominated by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) and the Prince Henry Institute of Medical Research for his tireless contribution in establishing philanthropic partnerships for RACP which has raised millions of dollars and his lifetime dedication to supporting medical research and advancement in Australia.
