Dr Alison Butt is the Senior Scientific Officer at Cancer Australia, the Federal Government’s national cancer control agency, and Chair of the NHMRC Clinical Trials Portal Advisory Committee.

Alison has over twenty years’ experience in cancer research as both an active researcher in a number of academic and research settings, and more recently, in a strategic leadership role as Director, Research Investment at the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF).  Prior to joining NBCF, Alison was a Group Leader in the Cancer Research Program at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research in Sydney, and held a conjoint appointment in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of New South Wales.  Her research interests have centred on understanding the development of drug resistance in breast and other cancers, and she has published over 40 research articles in this area.
In 2005, Alison was elected to the Board of Directors of the Australian Society for Medical Research (ASMR) – the peak professional body representing the health and medical research sector in Australia – and served as the ASMR President in 2010.
