Assoc. Prof Annette Schmiede

Annette Schmiede has worked in Australia’s health and aged care sectors for over three decades. She has a broad knowledge and deep understanding of the complex policy issues facing the provision of these services. Her working experience includes health services research, health service planning, governance and policy development. She has had advisory and leadership roles across a range of public, private and non-government organisations and has an established reputation for managing complex hospital development projects procured through public private partnerships.

Annette was appointed CEO of the Digital Health CRC in March 2022, having been a Senior Adviser to the organisation since its establishment in 2020.

She has recently retired from her role as Executive Leader of the Bupa Health Foundation and completed her term as Deputy Chair of the Northern Sydney Local Health District after 10 years. She was Chairman of UQ Health Care (2011-2014), a company established by the University of Queensland to operate primary care services. She has current and past appointments to boards of organisations providing pharmacy, radiology and community services.

An economics graduate of Sydney University she completed a year as a Visiting Fellow at the Centre for Clinical Governance Research in Health at UNSW Sydney in 2003. She is an Adjunct Associate Professor with the School of Public Health at Sydney University and an associate of the Menzies Centre for Health Policy. Her research interests include mental health, clinical governance, health system reform and innovation.
