Medical Research Future Fund consultations commence

The Australian Medical Research Advisory Board supporting the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) has announced the commencement of a two stage consultation process on the five-year Strategy and two-year Priorities. The first stage is a public call for submissions.

A consultation Paper and more information in relation to making a submission are available on the Department of Health website. Submissions close on 6 June 2016.  This will be followed by a second stage of targeted consultations to be held in July.

The MRFF is expected to make its first funding available in 2016/17. The amount of funding expected to be available over the first two years, the period covered by the first Priorities, is approximately $160 million. Over several years the funding available each year is expected to grow until it reaches $1 billion per annum.

The MRFF presents a significant opportunity for health and medical research in Australia.

The consultations Research Australia held with many of our members over recent months yielded several significant, and in some cases, common areas, for consideration. Research Australia will be sending out an overview of those consultations to all members in due course.

Research Australia encourages members of the alliance to make a submission and assist with the thinking in creating a sustainable health and medical research future.
