$447 million of research funding a step forward
“Funding of $447 million for health research will underpin further advances in health care, and increased quality of life for many Australians,” Rebecca James, CEO of Research Australia said today.
“Research Australia welcomes the announcement of $447.5 million for medical research through the National Health and Medical Research Council, by Minister and Ageing Mark Butler.
Research Australia surveys show that 90% of Australians agree that health and medical research into prevention, treatment and cure of diseases will play an important role in Australia’s future.
80% think that additional funding is an important priority for the government.
This follows findings by Access Economics (2003) that investment in health R&D surpasses every other source of rising living standards in our time.
Talented scientists, particularly those who are environment to secure the support they need to develop their careers.
Today’s funding announcement will help retain research scientists in Australia.
