APPLY NOW FOR COOPERATIVE RESEARCH CENTRE BID SUPPORT
Research organisations in NSW are being urged to apply for financial assistance of up to $30,000 each by the State Government to help them win lucrative Commonwealth funding to establish Cooperative Research Centres (CRCs) in the State.
Minister for Science and Medical Research Jodi McKay said applicants have until the end of this week to complete their applications for the latest round of NSW Government’s CRC Bid Support Program Funds.
“The NSW Government’s CRC Bid Support Program aims to improve NSW researchers’ chances to win major Commonwealth funds,” Ms McKay said.
“The Program offers grants of up to $30,000 to successful research consortia in NSW preparing bids for significant federal funding.
“The grants are available to applicants from a range of research fields including manufacturing, environment, social research, ICT, agriculture, medical research including cancer as well as other important disciplines.
“The grants will support activities such as analyses of research impacts, economic modelling, legal and commercialisation advice and interview preparation,” Ms McKay said.
Ms McKay said CRC bid teams undertaking cancer research are encouraged to apply for funding.
“The Cancer Institute NSW is a partner with Industry and Investment NSW in the CRC Bid Support Program, so researchers developing cancer-related bids are being encouraged to apply,” Ms McKay said.
“The NSW Government recognises the critical importance of medical research in the fight against cancer, and the need for Government and the community to pool its resources.
“Cancer remains the largest cause of premature death in the community and more than 38,000 people in NSW are expected to be diagnosed with the disease this year.
“Establishing Cooperative Research Centres will help to strengthen and expand existing partnerships and maximise investment and efforts in the fight against this terrible disease,” Ms McKay said.
The CRC Bid Support Program is part of the NSW Government’s Science Leveraging Fund, which has made $10 million available in 2010-11, in addition to $40 million over the previous four years to support NSW research organisations.
The fund has seen outstanding success over the last four years, achieving almost a ten-fold return on investment.
Applications for NSW CRC Bid Support Funding for CRC Round 14 close on Friday 4 February 2011. For more details including guidelines and application forms go to www.business.nsw.gov.au/innovation-and-research/grants-and-assistance.
