Developing Advanced Health Research Centres in Australia
NHMRC invites comment on a proposal to encourage the development of Advanced health Research Centres through collaboration between universities, Medical Research Institutes and hospitals to support research and research translation. The discussion paper - Developing Advanced Health Research Centres in Australia - was released for public consultation on 21 December 2010.
NHMRC are seeking feedback on a strategy to build Australia’s capacity to undertake essential health and medical research and to translate knowledge acquired from biomedical research into improved patient care. The consultation period on the discussion paper will last until 5 March 2011.
The Discussion Paper seeks views on:
- the aims of the Centres
- the selection criteria
- governance arrangements
- size and geographical distribution of the Centres
- involvement of primary care organisations
- the way in which achievements relative to opportunity should be considered, taking into account that Australian medical schools and hospitals have been established for widely varying times
- ways that philanthropic contributions to health and medical research can best be utilised.
