Associate Professor Greg Kaplan has a strong background in research, research management, administration and governance. He obtained a PhD in Medical Physics from the University of Wollongong in 2002 and is now close to completion of MBA from the University of Tasmania.
Greg Kaplan was appointed Woolcock Institute of Medical Research’s Chief Operating Officer in 2020. Prior to this, he held a similar role at the Ingham Institute of Applied Medical Research as their Chief Operating Officer and Company Secretary for 10 years. Greg puts a special significance on the translation of research into practice and nurturing close cooperation with hospitals and universities. He is passionate about an engagement and promotion of medical research with local communities and elected local, State and Federal representatives.
Greg was awarded his first degree in theoretical physics and started his career in Russia working in an academic research institute. Following his migration to Australia in 1992 he commenced work at the University of Wollongong where he enrolled in a part-time PhD. This was followed by 12 years working at Westmead Hospital and the Millennium Institute in research and research management roles. Throughout his career Greg visited and worked in a number of advanced research facilities across Australia, USA and Japan.
