Emeritus Professor Nicholas Fisk AM FAHMS FRSN MBBS DDU PhD CMFM MBA GAICD FRCOG FRANZCOG is a clinical scientist and academic leader. Between 2016-2024 he was Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Enterprise) at UNSW Sydney. His background is as a clinician scientist and opinion leader in maternal-fetal medicine and developmental biology with a focus on perinatal stem cell biology and monochorionic intertwin transfusion and over 400 publications including editorials in Lancet/NEJM/JAMA/BMJ/MJA, and coverage in CNN, BBC, NYTimes etc.

Nick graduated MBBS from the University of Sydney, obtained his PhD from University College London and  MBA from Imperial College, London.

His previous positions include Executive Dean of the University of Queensland’s Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (2010-2016), Director of the University of Queensland’s Centre for Clinical Research (2008-2009), and  Professor of Obstetrics and Fetal Medicine at Imperial College London (1992-2007). Professor Fisk has served on the Boards of the Queensland Institute of Medical Research, the Metro North Hospital and Health Service, and Brisbane Diamantina Health Partners.

Professor Fisk’s research is in the fields of developmental biology and maternal-fetal medicine, and he is the author of more than 400 publications. He was elected to Fellowship of the Academy of Health and Medical Sciences in 2014.

He has served in leadership roles in a number of international and national organisations, including as President of the International Fetal Medicine and Surgery Society, Chair of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, and Chair of the Group of Eight Universities’ Deans of Medicine Committee. He is a past chair of the Steering Committee of the Association of Academic Health Centers International, and is current Chair of the Group of Eight Deputy Vice-Chancellor’s Research Committee and also NewSouth Innovations.
